Dear Fellow Book Collector:
In 2007, after 10 years of book collecting, I wasn’t meeting my goal of filling bookshelves with valuable books I could brag about. Even with great advice from my brother-in-law and collector Jim … I had very few high-dollar books to show for my efforts.

Rating Books for Collectability

Then one day I was reading a book written by the famous collector Nicolas Basbanes … and some lines in it gave me an idea for a rating system.
With some trial and error, I put together a rating system using several factors I thought were important to the value of a book.

The first book I found using my system was The Name of the Wind and I have been enormously successful selling copies of it at prices of up to $700. I also pinpointed The Help … the blockbuster bestseller that was made into a movie … and sold a copy for $400.

Convinced that I had something useful I could share with other book collectors …
I decided to create:

The FictionPrediction Membership Club

This exclusive club… helps beginner and experienced book collectors find high-potential books.
Membership to this site will allow you to have … the ratings of hundreds of books … that have just been released for sale.

… giving you a window of opportunity to purchase signed first editions of the most collectible books at retail prices from independent book stores …
BEFORE they become well-known and the prices are driven up.

…. it is essential that you buy these books early as many of them have small printings and can be hard to obtain.
… and I will let you know where the authors are signing their books.

How FictionPrediction Works

• The ratings will show you the potential of the book
– for example, a rating of 70, indicates a book could ultimately be sold for $70
• New book ratings come out a couple of times a month with about 15 – 20 books a month listed in the data base
– This is too many for you to buy so I narrow the list down
• I highlight anywhere from 2 to 5 books a month in posts
– You will see the reasons why you should buy them and where to get a copy … near the release date. If there are UK versions, you will learn where to get them.
• Each month I select the Collectible Book of the Month … the highest rated book released that month
– This book will often give you the best potential price gains
– You can usually readily buy the book from an independent bookstore (for signed copies) or a chain store (for unsigned copies)

What kind of books are we buying?
• the books are hypermodern (recently published books) books
• … in the following genres: mystery, fantasy, science fiction, literature and young adult
• these books will give you the greatest potential for price increases

* – this was one of the most controversial and expensive books of 2013. J. K. Rowling wrote this under the pen name of Robert Galbraith. I did recommend the UK book (only about 1,000 copies) in April but only a few members bought early before the real author was revealed in July.

FictionPrediction is Not for Everyone

Here are the minimum requirements for participation:
1. $300 per year for buying books
The membership site is for all levels of book collectors but a member should have a minimum of about $300 per year for buying books. Buying at least one book a month is best … as you will have a better chance to have books that gets shortlisted (nominated for an award) or wins awards.
2. Patience
Also, you must have patience. This is not a get-rich-quick scheme. You should hold these books at least a year to allow them to develop their value. Hold them at least through the complete yearly cycle of awards.
3. Access to High-Speed Internet
You can get by with calling or visiting bookstores for purchases … but I recommend internet access to allow you to buy on Ebay, Amazon and Advanced Book Exchange. You will find many of the recommendations on these websites.
And for faster viewing of the pages on the FictionPrediction website
